Christina produces small sculptures out
of wax and makes them into bronze sculptures. By working in wax first
she excludes the extra step of making a mold of an existing sculpture
and them making a replica of it in wax. In order to make one of her
sculptures the mold is made around the wax object and then heated in
an oven until all the wax has melted out and any moisture in the plaster
mold has evaporated. Bronze is then melted in a furnace and poured into
the empty space that was once occupied by the original sculpture. After
cooling the sculpture is liberated from the mold and cleaned and a patina
is sometimes added to the surface.
